Can't Get Away From It

I finally published the books and the stories keep coming. Dementia is so impactful in the lives of many people, especially those who are African American. The layers of issues that caregivers face who have limited resources is taxing.

I recall meeting a woman in a office supply store just a couple of weeks ago who saw my bookmarks and when I told her I was writing a book about dementia, she repeated almost stammering, "My mom has that. My mom has that." She indicated that her mother had multiple health issues that made her diagnosis even more complex. Dementia, diabetes, amputee, heart condition and depression. Just when you think it can't be any more complex to handle!

My book is an attempt to help the caregiver not feel so isolated. I am prayerful that their is some solace in knowing caregivers are not alone on their journey. I am hopeful that this book will be picked up in social work programs to help new social workers to the field understand the issues of the individuals and families who face Alzheimer's and other dementias! Make time to read and review the resources available to you and pray with me for the cure!

See the light of your experience even when it is darkest so that the reframe of your life is that of a conqueror. Joy be in your heart and hope in your spirit until we chat again!
